Piano Duo LP Biography


Piano Duo LP was founded by pianists Sonja Loncar and Andrija Pavlovic in summer 2004.
They finished postgraduate studies for piano duo at „Hochschule für Musik und Theatre Rostock“, in class of professors Hans-Peter and Volker Stenzl with the highest grades.
In April 2007, they were accepted for PhD studies „Konzert examen (KEX)“, the only studies for piano duo in Europe in class of professors Hans-Peter and Volker Stenzl.
Konzert Examen (KEX) is the highest education any musician can receive in Europe.

Piano duo LP are only duo from Balkans attending this studies, and there is only 4 duos in Europe that finished „Konzert Examen-KEX“. Beside PhD studies in Germany, they are finishing postgraduate-specialization studies for contemporary chamber music-piano duo at Faculty of music art in Belgrade.

They won first prize at International competition in Krakow (Poland), and at the same competition they were awarded with the special prize for the best performance of the piece by Dutch composer.

They passed two stage auditions to be chosen among duos from Europe, Asia and Africa to take part in the final 10 best duos at International competition in Miami (Florida), where they are going to play 5 recitals in March 2008.

They are the only duo in history of Balkans to participate in the biggest piano duo competition in the world in Miami (Florida).

Their debut performance was at Belgrade summer festival 2004, when they performed as a premiere piece by famous French composer Olivier Messiaen „Visions de L’Amen” in Sava Centre.

This performance was accompanied by video work based on Sonja’s and Andrija’s idea, made and live performed by Milos Gojkovic.

In 2004, they had a live performance of W. A. Mozart: Sonata K.V. 521, C-major for 4 hands, at Radio television Belgrade II programme. 

In 2005. they made a premiere performances of Dutch pieces by famous Simeon The Holt and most prolific composer of the day Chiel Meijering in Belgrade philharmonic hall. These compositions were again accompanied with video works made by Milos Gojkovic and one actor- Goran Jeftic. Concert was organized with the help of Royal Embassy of Netherlands in Belgrade and concert agency “Jugokoncert”.

Piano duo LP performed at “Night of museums” in Budapest, Belgrade summer festival (BELEF 05), Festival “Belgrade-Ljubljana express”, and performed a benefit concert for UNICEF in Rostock (Germany).

In October 2005, Piano duo LP won a third prize at International competition for two pianos “Roma 2005” in Roma (Italy). Because of the great international success, they were awarded with the special prize by Serbian “Young talents foundation”.

In 2006, Sonja and Andrija took part in a project “Art of transition” and performed in Symphonic orchestra hall in Nis (Serbia). In same year they played in Centre of Fine Arts “Guarnerius” (Belgrade) with support of “ProHelvetia Swiss cultural programme” and Denmark Embassy Belgrade. The piece “Variation’s on Chick Chorea’s theme La fiesta” composed by Denmark composer Kim Helweg, Piano duo LP performed as a premiere in Serbia.

At International piano duo competition “Roma 2006” they won II prize in category two pianos, and III prize in category piano 4 hands. Next performance was in Dom Omladine (Belgrade) at the Festival “Chinch-composers in first person”.

In 2007, they made performances in “Banski dvor hall” (Banja Luka, Bosnia and Hercegovina) , “Sinagoga hall” (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Ochsenhausen (Germany).

In July 2007, Piano duo LP performed at Belgrade summer festival (BELEF 2007).The concert was held on the both „Topciderka“ seiling and on the river Sava.

Now they are recording their complete repertoire for Radio Belgrade III program.

Most of their concerts have a special visually identity.

Their repertoire is varying from classical to contemporary and modern pieces.
