Sonja Lončar Biography



Sonja Lončar

  Sonja Loncar was born in Belgrade in 1978. She made her first music steps in primary music school “Josif Marinkovic”. This school she finished in the age of 12, when she started attending the secondary music school “Kosta Manojlovic”, graduated as a best student in her generation in class of Professor Zlata Males.

  During the school year 1994/95 she was attending a department for young talents at music Academy in Novi Sad in professor Kemal Gekic and professor Rita Kinka class.

In 1995, two years in advance of her generation, she enrolled in “Faculty of Music Art” in Belgrade and graduated in July 2001 at professor Nevena Popovic class.

She finished postgraduate studies for piano duo at Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock in professors Hans-Peter and Volker Stenzl.      

     From April 2007,  she is  student of  Ph.D. studies (Konzertexamen KEX) for piano duo at Hochschule für Muzik und Theater Rostock in Professor Hans-Peter and Volker Stenzl class, which is the highest education any musician can get in Europe.

She is student of postgraduate studies of contemporary music in Belgrade as well, and a student of postgraduate studies of music for theaters on Faculty of Drama in Belgrade.

 


During 2004, 2005, and 2006 she was a part-time member of Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, and  Symphonic orchestra - Radio and Television Serbia .

During 2004 and 2005 she was working at Faculty of music Art in Belgrade as an accompanist. She is active as a soloist and a member of different ensembles.

She was playing as a soloist with orchestra at Ilija M. Kolarac foundation in Belgrade, in Synagogue, City house, Studio M and Music Academy in Novi Sad. She played twice in SANU Gallery. In Belgrade she is playing in big Hall of SKC, Russian Home, Sava Centre, Pavilion Cvijeta Zuzoric, Belgrade Philharmonic hall, Center of Fine Arts – Guarnerius,  and KCB Gallery . Many times she played and recorded for Radio and Television Belgrade and Novi Sad.

She performed at many festivals: BEMUS, BELEF, BITEF, Budva- City Theater, International Composer Platform, TIBA, EXIT...
and many cities:  Belgrade, Novi Sad, Berlin, Laipzig, London (Barbican Center), Krakow, Roma,  Rostock (concert for UNICEF),  Ljubljana (Krizanke), Budapest ( Night of Museum ) ...
She finished master classes of professor Arbo Valdma, professor Igor Lasko,  professor Jokut Mihajlovic, professor Hans-Peter Stenzl and professorVolker Stenzl .

With FMU ensemble she played A. Schoenberg “Piero Lunaire” at Composers platform as premiere in Serbia. With same ensemble she worked as a pianist and harpsichordist in operas: “Bastien and Bastiena “(W. A. Mozart), “Puppet theatre of master Pedro” (De Faglia), Narcissus and Echo, and music of Gustav Maler in orchestration of Shoenberg. With them she played at BEMUS, in Budva (City theater) and at theatre festival BITEF.
Several times she played contemporary music as a premiere.

 


Sonja Loncar is a winner of more than 23 respectable prizes at many competitions:

  1. first prize at Republic competition in Belgrade- 1987. ( piano duo )
  2. first prize at Federation competition in Dubrovnik- 1987 (piano duo)
  3. second prize at Republic competition  in Belgrade-1990 (piano duo)
  4. first  prize at city competition -1991
  5. first prize at Serbian music schools festival 1991
  6. first prize at Yugoslav competition for young pianists in Nis -1993
  7. Second prize at international competition “Petar Konjovic” -1993 in Belgrade
  8. She played at the final part of international competition “Dunav-Donau-Danub”
    in Novi Sad -1993, and won special prize for playing A. Copland piece.
  9. In October 1993 she was playing at international competition for pianists in Roma,
    where she won special diploma.
  10. In April 1994 she was playing at International music competition in Streza ( Italy),
    where she won a special diploma.

  3. first prize at competition for young Yugoslav  pianists in Nis-1994

  6. first prize at III competition of young Yugoslav pianists in Nis -1995
  7. first prize at III International competition “Petar Konjovic” in Belgrade-1995
  8. third prize at International competition of pianists in Roma (piano duo) 2005       
  9. Second prize at International competition  “Roma 2006” (two pianos)
  10. third prize at International competition “Roma 2006” (piano duets)
  11. I prize at International contemporary chamber music in Krakow (Poland)
  12. Special prize for the best performance of Dutch music at International
    contemporary chamber music in Krakow (Poland)
  13. Special prize from the “Young talents foundation” for the great success
    at International piano competition in “Roma 2005”

Except classical music, Sonja Loncar is composing music for theatre and film.

She composed and performed her music for theater in Krsmanac, National theatre , Cinema REX , Theater “ Dusko Radovic “, Bitef Theatre, Pinokio  …

In 2006, she composed and played music in theater play “Kiki and Bozo” in Dusko Radovic theater in Belgrade. In 2007, she composed and played music in theater play “Plastelin” (theater “Atelje 212”) and “Lucprda” (theater Pinokio) in Belgrade.

In Prague (Czech Republic), she composed and played music in theatrical play “Book about bamboo” (text by Vladimir Bajac), in cooperation with students from FAMU
(Prague), and this theater play opened “Theater Festival Leipzig” (Germany).

Few times she worked with students (film & theatre directors), and she won a prize for the best music for film “Gallows for two“(author Uros Stojanovic) at “Festival of short meter“.

She composed music for TV show “Sta mi spremas“. It was broadcasted on BK TV during the 2004/2005 year.

She is working with few domestic popular bands (Jarboli, Dvojac bez kormilara, Belgrade Yard Sound System….)
She was a guest at few albums published by “B 92” and “Cosmic Sounds London”.
